Michael Kleinman has practiced family law in Toronto for over 20 years. He is an experienced advocate, mediator and arbitrator well known for giving clear, perceptive advice. He helps clients to find principled and creative resolutions to complex family law issues. Michael is a negotiator and litigation lawyer whose work reflects his extensive knowledge of family law and his pragmatic approach to conflict resolution. Michael strives to ensure that his clients clearly understand, and are directly involved in, managing the legal and procedural issues in their file at each step.
Michael was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1994, after completing his B.A., B.C.L., and LL.B. degrees, all from McGill University. He is a member in good standing of the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Ontario Bar Association, the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, and the ADR Institute of Ontario. In January 2012, he was appointed a Dispute Resolution Officer (DRO) of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice.
Fluent in English and French, Michael first associated with the firm of Epstein, Cole LLP. He started his own practice in 1998 and has, since 2011, practised in association with Barbara Gordon. He is a frequent speaker at Continuing Legal Education (CLE) programs at the Law Society of Upper Canada and the Ontario Bar Association. He presented the Mandatory Information Program (formerly F.I.S.) at the Ontario Superior Court of Justice from 1999 until 2011; and has presided over Elementary Mock Trials for the Ontario Bar Association since 2004. Michael is also a past instructor for the Law Society of Upper Canada's Bar Admission Course in Family Law.
